SERVE & RECEIVE
SERVE & RECEIVE
A Return to the Original Purpose of Youth Sports
Youth sports have drifted from their original purpose.
Rising costs. Growing pressure. Limited access.
What was once a developmental environment has increasingly become a transactional one.
Families feel it.
Coaches feel it.
Kids feel it.
Serve & Receive exists to explore a different path.
Not a reaction. Not a rejection.
A journey back to first principles.
We begin that journey through the sport we’ve lived, studied, and loved: volleyball.
Where Volleyball Began
Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan as part of the YMCA.
The intent was simple:
Create a game where people move together.
Accessible.
Inexpensive.
Designed to build healthy, productive environments outside of work and home — a third space where people could grow.
It wasn’t about exposure, scholarships, or rankings.
It was about participation, connection, and development.
The Shift We Acknowledge
Over time, youth sports have become big business.
And to be clear — we recognize the opportunities sports can create.
Doors open. Paths emerge. Futures are shaped.
But we also believe both things can be true:
You can pursue high performance without excluding access
You can develop athletes and develop people
You can create opportunity without financial barriers determining who belongs
We believe the environment itself matters — not just what it leads to.
Why Serve & Receive Exists
Serve & Receive exists to invest time, energy, and care into building an environment that reflects those original values.
An environment where:
Development is real
Belonging is felt
Participation isn’t gated by wealth
The experience itself has value — regardless of outcome
This isn’t a shortcut.
It isn’t a guarantee.
It’s a commitment to the work.
We begin with boys volleyball — a sport that is often under-supported or absent entirely in many communities.
Our early focus:
Bringing volleyball into neighborhoods and schools where access is limited
Hosting free clinics and introductory experiences
Supporting PE teachers with drills, structure, and equipment
Actively identifying kids who would love to play — but haven’t had exposure or opportunity
Financially supporting participation where needed
No promises about where it leads.
Only intention around how it’s done.
Starting Small. Intentionally.
An Invitation
Serve & Receive is not a program to consume.
It’s a vision to contribute to.
For families, coaches, educators, and supporters who believe youth sports can still be:
Developmental
Human
Accessible
Worth protecting
This is an exploration — grounded, honest, and evolving.
A return to the original path.
We are starting locally in Orange County, with the intention of learning deeply before growing outward.
As an early expression of this work, we’ve formed a U15 boys volleyball team made up of players from across Orange County.
The team exists not only to train and compete, but to help champion the values of Serve & Receive — through their conduct, their development, and their involvement in local clinics and community events.
If this vision resonates, you’re invited to follow along as the work unfolds.
